Sir Robert Menzies
Sir Robert Menzies, the longest-serving prime minister of Australia, was the quintessential constitutional conservative. When in London in 1948 speaking on the British Nationality Act he said “We cannot hack away at the foundations and then express surprise when someday the house falls.”
About This Website
This website is not aligned to any political party and welcomes support from all political persuasions of a conservative nature.
A conservative is one who seeks to conserve that which works. No one can possibly doubt that the Australian Constitution works well as a stabilising force countering often unstable governments.
This website is not aligned to any particular political party and welcomes support from all who seek to conserve a governance system which works in the interests of the people.
Our Purpose
Our purpose is to be informative and to post articles analysing proposals for constitutional reform. Whilst we are not against cosmetic change to update the Australian Constitution, we fully appreciate that any opening of doorways is dangerous as activists could well use good intentions to push a specific agenda.
This website has been established by the Australian Monarchist League which has, as its mandate, “The Protection of the Australian Constitution” (www.monarchist.org.au). Whilst supporters of this website do not necessarily have to be ‘monarchists’, one cannot be a constitutional conservative and a republican. That is an oxymoron because a monarchist seeks to conserve that which works whilst a republican seeks to remove the Crown and thus destroy the very foundation of the Australian Constitution.
